![]() This final stand from Feb 26th to 28th ranks as some of the best of the entire 17 show catalog. The Uptown runs were generally not on lists, and with minor exceptions, lurked just out of circulatory sight for most of the years leading up to the great high-speed Internet explosion. ![]() And, while there is little trouble bumping your ears into any of the music from this three year span at the Uptown today, it was not always the case. Consistent with the sentiment that there was never a bad show played at the Uptown, the Dead’s final stand at the Uptown proves the point yet again. Now we will visit the last, from February ’81. Early on, we visited the first run from May ’78. The band played a total of 17 shows at this venue from 1978 to 1981. It's nice to be able to relive it with tapes and videos.Let’s go back to the Uptown Theater in Chicago. We had a great time though and it certainly wasn't a bad show. The show was not the best Grateful Dead show I have seen but we really wanted to see the acoustic set. Al Franken was, is and always will be a big, fat idiot. We all hated having them blabbing during the breaks and they weren't funny at all. We then left for Nashville Sunday night and arrived in Nashville just in time to go straight to 8 am classes Monday morning.įranken and Davis were a big bummer. Our plan was to see the Dead and then Zappa on the 1st but we tripped way too hard at the Dead show and ended up staying in Rowaton and having a clam bake with lobsters, steamers and all. We were already catching a buzz before we left and left our Halloween costumes in the car at the train station. ![]() I don't remember if it was going or coming, but on one leg there was an elderly couple on the train that had no idea what to make of all of us. Just about everyone on the train was going to the Dead or Zappa. One of the guys I went with was from Rowaton, CT and we stayed at his house.įrank Zappa was playing his usual run of show over Halloween at the Palladium. ![]() I grew up just north of New York City and never told my mom I was up there to this day. ![]() We drove up from Nashville, where we were in college, (I loved it and ending up staying and I am still in Nashville). ![]()
